Kapitał zagraniczny napływający do polskiej gospodarki pełni bardzo ważną rolę w procesie jej restrukturyzacji i prywatyzacji. Większość inwestycji zagranicznych to tzw. inwestycje bezpośrednie, czyli najbardziej korzystna forma inwestycji.

Dzisiaj 93 proc. kapitału trafiającego do Polski pochodzi z krajów OECD (ponad 43 mld USD). Jak informuje Polska Agencja Informacji i Inwestycji Zagranicznych, w 2002 r. napłynęły do Polski inwestycje wartości 5 mld dolarów. Ich całkowita wartość w latach 1990 - 2002 to 63 mld USD.

Znaczna część pochodzących z zagranicy środków finansowych trafia do przemysłu wytwórczego (44 proc.). Dalej plasują usługi finansowe(22,3 proc.) oraz logistyka, transport i przesyłanie danych (13,1 proc.). Od pierwszej połowy lat 90. inwestorzy z UE coraz częściej wykazują zainteresowanie inwestowaniem w Polsce. Choć w 1992 roku wartość inwestycji pochodzących z krajów UE wynosiła ok. 45 proc., to w 2001 roku wartość ta wzrosła do 68 proc. wszystkich inwestycji, jakie zostały podjęte przez zagraniczne firmy. Wzrost ten to najlepsza wizytówka dla rozwoju polskiej gospodarki, która jest znakomitym dowodem zainteresowania inwestorów.

Lista największych wielkości inwestycji to znakomicie ilustruje skalę zaangażowania zagranicznego kapitału gospodarkę Polski. (dane Accenture). Polska to kraj atrakcyjny dla zagranicznych inwestorów z powodu konkurencyjnych kosztów pracy, wielkości rynku, różnorodności przemysłu i potencjału rozwojowego dla nowych podmiotów gospodarczych.

Foreign capital flowing into the Polish economy performs a very important role in the process of reconstruction and privatization. The majority of foreign investments are the so-called immediate investments, or the most profitable forms of investment. This is dependent on creating new businesses from the bottom up or taking over already existing domestic companies.

Foreign companies did not exist in Poland before 1989 (except the so-called Polonia companies, or partnership with foreign capital, where the owners were Polish citizens living abroad). Today, 93% of the foreign capital in Poland is coming from the OECD countries (more than 43 billion USD). As per information from the Polish Information and Foreign Investments Agency, in 2002 Poland received 5 billion dollars worth in investments. The total investment value between 1999 and 2002 is 63 billion USD.

The majority of foreign financial aid ends up in the manufacturing industry (44 percent). Following are the financial services (22.3 %) and logistics, transport and data transfer
(13.1 %) industries. Since the early 1990s, investors from the European Union showed more interest in investing in Poland. In 1992 the value of investments coming from EU countries was approximately 45%. In 2001, this value grew to 68% of the total foreign business investments. This growth is the best advertising for the Polish economy, and is excellent proof of investor interest.

The list of the largest investments illustrates very well the level of involvement of foreign capital in the Polish economy. There are plans for further investments in the coming years,
including investment plans from Megatronics (USA), Stagery (USA), Navitech (Japan) and Toro Industries Corporation (Japan). This phenomenon is quite interesting in contrast to downward trend in the world economy. In 2002, in comparison with the previous year, the number of investments in Europe rose 0.6%, while Poland in the same period noted an increase of approximately 24% (Accenture data). Poland is very attractive for foreign investors due to the competitive cost of labor, market size, industry variety and potential growth of new economic markets.
